Good free surveying software

Hi,

Anyone know any good survey software (windows) or app (android) that is free or has a small price (not hundreds of dollar/euro)?

Features i would like it to have are:

  • Survey and stakeout
  • Measure points and lines
  • Be able to make groundcontrolpoints (high accuracy)
  • Be able to make own pointcodes

Any tips?

I like the Trimble Penmap freemium app, but it doesn’t seem to be able to connect to external GPS (and thus can’t even test if it will work with the S100 or only with trimble GPS).

Ciao.
Spero anch’io in qualche suggerimento.

Bom saber, vou testar o Survey Master

I tried using the Survey Master. Thank you very much for the wonder suggestion! It satisfies all of my requirements for a surveying app. I also tried Trimble Penmap but it pales in comparison to Survey Master. I work with Lefebure Ntrip + LocusGIS/Mapit (~$20/$100 annual subscription for the pro versions), both are very good for GIS data collection with their multiple attributes, custom symbology, media attachments etc. but for engineering surveys, Survey Master is better.

Hi,

Survey Master seems like a good progam, looking at the menu options and all. Took me a while to connect the S100, but it i needed the NMEA option instead of NacCom.

Anyway, it has internal NTRIP connection, but it won’t seem to store my username and password of my service (it’s a RTK service in the netherlands).

Everything works perfectly fine if i use lefebure NTRIP client, but when Survey Master tries to connect to my ‘workmode’, it keeps saying the username or password is bad. When i check the credentials of the ‘server’ the username and password has been removed.

Any tips on that?

Spero possa aiutarti.

Well, i have no idea what you are saying (don’t know the language), but i will try to get the same result like the image :).

Hai qualche suggerimento?

Hello,

I have a problem with the base location not being shown in Survey Master. As a result, all my survey points are recorded as “Single” or “No Base”, not “Fixed”. Maybe you can help me? Thanks.

Ciao.

I have this problem of the base using in rtk with cube-A and with Survey Master, if I can solve it, I’ll come back here to advise, but theoretically I would have to connect the base first, but the tests didn’t work out, it would be interesting to test fieldgenius more and very expensive.

Riesci a collegare correttamente con Lefebure NTRIP client?

We do not have VRS in our area, only 2 fixed CORS that are more than 30kms away. I only have 2 Alpha+ units, most of the time I use 1 unit for the base. In the GNSS-viewer software, I can see that the RTCM message 1005 is enabled for the base unit, so I am confused why Survey Master is unable to use it. When I connect using Lefebure NTRIP, I can see the distance to base - I assume it’s because Lefebure can read the 1005 (?). Does anybody know an easy way to check if the 1005 message is really included in the RTCM?
I do not have any problem connecting to the fixed base. I can easily get a fixed solution under open areas. However, since all fixed solutions are being recorded as single positioning, I cannot use the Grid Shift function in Survey Master.

I should also test using the CORS station. Could the issue be with the base RTK receiver? I have only used the Survey Master app with my Alpha+ unit as base.
Unfortunately, FieldGenius is too expensive for me. I need to buy the S100 first. Does it have a function similar to Grid Shift?

In questo non posso aiutarti. Io uso Polaris S100 in RTK.

I confirmed that the RTCM includes the 1005 message. Anyway, Survey Master is still a powerful software even without the Grid Shift function.

i think my RTK service is a VRS one, not sure if it works with the CORS settings although it seems to connect. It has a slider at the bottom of the connectionsettings that says ‘VRS’, and it’s active.

However, when everything seems ok and i try to survey a point, it keeps saying it doesn’t ‘meet accuracy’ and i need to check. On the ‘position’ page it keeps showing a ‘status: single’ and on the satallite page it only seems to connect (atleast show) to GPS (and not the others, although everything has been checkboxed)

When i use Lefebure NTRIP-client i get a Fixed position within a minute using about 28 sats on an open sky, so it all seems to work just fine there. The GPS ‘skyview’ in survey master shows arround 10-12 when i check. So there must be something wrong.

It’s shows my location on the map near perfect though, but without a fixed postion it won’t take measurements :S…

Ciao. Posso comunque sapere quale servizio RTK utilizzi?
